dale_and_don_180x120.jpgOwners,
Dale Downing and Don Shone

In 1985 Dale Downing and Don Shone combined their many years of retail grocery experience and created Sonoma Market. Eight years later Glen Ellen Village Market was built, replacing the original Glen Ellen store that opened in 1963. Sonoma Market also expanded when adjacent retail space became available.

Dale and Don are proud of their stores, the quality, freshness, service and  commitment to feature local products, listen to their customers and change with the times and trends.

The stores are where you meet your neighbors and friends, and their success exemplifies the philosophy "you get out what you put in." And they have put their lives into their business and their community.

Sonoma Market is ever-present in the Sonoma Valley community, and Don and Dale are proud of their involvement, commitment and contributions. From e-scrip for schools to bag lunches at charity golf tournaments, hot dogs at SVHS football games to elaborate gift baskets at fundraising auctions, from the Boys and Girls Clubs to the Vintage Festival and, of course, Relay for Life, they are dedicated to serving and helping. In 2008 they donated over $177,000.
